    Virtual Office-Online Services

With the advances of technology, growing distances and lack of time, distance counseling represents a new modality of counseling to continue to help people with clarifying and solving personal problems, gaining insight and increase self awareness, healing and growing. Distance counseling includes 2 types of modalities:

    1) Online counseling: Via chat and/or email. Writing instead of talking is the main tool.
It has been studied that writing has great therapeutic effects not only because slows down our thought process and organization of ideas but also because we can better remember the content of the sessions. You just need to be willing to engage in written therapeutic communication through email or live chat to engage in online counseling.

    2) Telecounseling, counseling by telephone, which is a good option for people that don’t feel comfortable typing or with the internet technology. Or just prefer to hear the voice of another human being.

What are the advantages of online counseling?

    • Anonymity: some people feel safer and are able to be more open.
    • Convenience: greater flexibility for appointments and you can do it from your home or wherever you ar
    • Time efficiency: you don’t need to take time off work or travel anywhere
    • Accessibility: increased access to services from rural and remote locations or to people who are unable to leave their homes or travel to an office.

Many people don’t require to engage in long-term counseling treatment but one or a few consultations can help them make better decisions or change their lives.  This is when online counseling is more recommendable.

    Disclaimer:
IN NO WAY does distance counseling replace a therapeutic relationship based on face-to-face interactions. One main disadvantage is that the therapist CANNOT verify information, consulting first-hand with other service providers such as the client’s primary care physician, and does not have visual cues with which are all basic elements of a therapeutic intervention. Therefore, therapist solely relies on client’s honesty. Each person is responsible for making the decision about which form of therapy to pursue and needs to be open and honest with the therapist about the facts of their situation so that the therapist may guide them for their own best interest.
